The maintenance of Finlands biodiversity iargely<br /> depends on two factors: having sufflcient nature reserves, and ensuring that and in commerciai use<br /> is sustainably used and managed, whiie aiso giving due consideration to econon,ic and sociai<br /> interests. The Nationai Action Pian is designed to preserve native species, their genetic diversity<br /> and the structurai diversity of naturai habitats and ecosystems in aii of Finlands biogeographicai<br /> zones. The objective is to protect and manage Finlands threatened bioiogicai resources, so that<br /> no species, genetic resources or habitats are iost. The action pian aiso aims to preserve the bioiogicai<br /> diversity of cultivated and don,esticated species considered to be important genetic resources in<br /> Finland. it particu[ariy strives to encourage the sustainable use of natural resources in productive<br /> areas, and to foster the business opportunities offeted by the prornotion of biodiversity which<br /> present great potential for the creation of jobs and new types of consultative enterprises. The<br /> diversity of nature is also very important to the Finnish peopte in terrns of their quality of life and<br /> as a source of recreation.
